Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actress who is known for her role as the fierce lawyer Teri Joseph in the Showtime show Soul Food. The actress is known under her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. As a child living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In the Maryland high school contest during her first years of education she received the award for the most outstanding actress. Alongside her involvement at the theater as well as with the Washington Ballet Company. She earned an acting degree from New York University. Her debut role on screen in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was a success and earned an immense amount of respect. Then came movies like "Boogie Nights Spark" and Blue Streak. Contractor was born in Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to numerous travel experiences and other cultures since a early age. After boarding school, during seven years of London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada in which she lived for most of her youth as well as her early years of adulthood. Contractor had a great academic career in Toronto in addition to her training as a ballerina. Contractor was offered the leading role in Pericles after a one-year stint at University. She auditioned for it at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and received. In 2002, Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 performances of the play. Contractor accepted an invitation to join Stratford's Conservatory. Only eight men selected and four females accepted for the 20-week course in the classical theatre. Contractor was offered a slot for the following season. She was also offered the role as Hermia.
